Quinta Da Carolina Tinto

Description

Owned by the Cândido da Silva family, Quinta da Carolina is located in the demarcated Douro region, within the Cima Corgo sub‑region, on the left bank of the Douro River, 4 km south of Pinhão. The estate faces north and its old vines—classified as “A”—are about 40 years old. They are planted with the traditional Douro varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Carvalha, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Sousão, Rufete, Tinta Melra, Malvasia Preta, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Francisca, and Bastardo. Since the late 1990s the wines have been crafted under the guidance of Californian winemaker Jerry Luper, and currently by winemaker Luís Pedro Cândido da Silva. With a limited production, the Cândido da Silva family positions Quinta da Carolina as a “garage wine” producer, crafting wines that are careful, sincere, and of the highest quality.
