Owned by the Cândido da Silva family, Quinta da Carolina is located in the demarcated Douro region, within the Cima Corgo sub‑region, on the left bank of the Douro River, 4 km south of Pinhão. The estate has a north‑facing exposure and a 40‑year‑old old‑vines vineyard, entirely planted with “A”‑label vines. It is composed of the classic and traditional Douro grape varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Carvalha, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Sousão, Rufete, Tinta Melra, Malvasia Preta, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Francisca, and Bastardo. Since the late 1990s the estate has been steered by renowned Californian winemaker Jerry Luper, and is now overseen by winemaker Luís Pedro Cândido da Silva. With a limited production, the Cândido da Silva family positions itself as a “vins de garage” producer, crafting careful, sincere wines of the highest quality. (illustrative image)
