This Quinta da Pacheca Reserva clearly enjoyed a rather indulgent upbringing, nurtured on granite and boasting a truly impressive selection of grapes. The result is a wine with a definite punch – think ripe black cherry and blackberry, perhaps after a strong espresso and a square of dark chocolate. The oak has been seamlessly integrated, thankfully avoiding any over-the-top gestures, and lends a luxuriously smooth texture. Robert Parker’s discerning eye awarded it a remarkable 88 points, and it’s a wine that's ready to be enjoyed now, though with the potential to soften beautifully with age – perfect with a slow-roasted beef or a perfectly cooked turkey breast, wouldn’t you agree?
