The earliest historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. It was in 1980 that Álvaro de Castro—an engineer by training but with a passion for wine—enthusiastically purchased the estate, reviving a family tradition of winemaking that had been dormant for two generations. Later he acquired Quinta de Saes. Both properties, situated at the foot of the Serra da Estrela, benefit from protection against Atlantic winds, which results in aromatic and complex wines.
