A wine with an intense, bright red hue. It offers aromas of red fruit, accented by spices from the oak aging. The palate is rich, with prominent, firm tannins. Touriga Nacional contributes elegance, Touriga Franca adds fruity nuances, and Tinta Roriz provides body, leaving a persistent and flavorful finish. Quinta da Vacaria, one of the oldest estates in the region (first recorded in 1616), is situated on the banks of the Douro River beside the town of Régua, in the heart of the world's oldest demarcated wine region, the Douro. At the estate’s quay, Rabelo boats would dock to load their sails with Port wine and transport it to Gaia at the river’s mouth, where it was sold in bulk worldwide, leaving its identity hidden because those wooden barrels were not even marked with the producer’s seal. Upon arrival, the wine was bottled and labeled with the brand of the foreign merchants who purchased it; some of those merchants later gained considerable prestige. (illustrative image)
