This “Pai Abel” from Quinta das Bágeiras is a Bairrada stalwart, clearly enjoying a bit of a mystery. Crafted with a generous hand of Baga alongside Touriga Nacional, it’s a wine built for longevity – and apparently, discerning palates. The meticulous process, involving five bunches per vine and constant “remontagens,” delivers a concentrated dark fruit intensity with refreshing balsamic nuances. Maturation in used Burgundy barrels adds an elegant touch and texture. Remarkably, this wine earned a stunning 18/20 from the *Vinhos de Portugal* guide. Best paired with robust beef – and perhaps a suitably challenging conversation.
