Avô Fausto red from Quinta das Bágeiras is a wine that prioritises elegance and authenticity, combining Baga and Touriga Nacional grapes from carefully selected plots in the Bairrada. Vinified traditionally, with fermentation in open vats and ageing in used French oak barrels and a wooden cask, it displays a distinct profile marked by spice and wild‑berry notes. On the palate it offers excellent balance, polished tannins, and a fresh, vibrant acidity, resulting in a wine of great character, finesse and remarkable food‑pairing ability. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not mean much to the distracted, but he is none other than the great mentor behind Quinta das Bágeiras’ outstanding wines. The estate’s story dates back to the work of three generations; however, it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio’s stewardship, that the Quinta das Bágeiras wines began to be bottled and sold, quickly becoming a benchmark in Bairrada and across Portugal. Although produced using the methods of earlier generations, the Quinta das Bágeiras wines are not trendy fads but rather timeless, always in style, revealing the character of the region and its producers with every harvest.
