This Arcossó, clearly aiming for a wine with serious ageing potential, has wisely opted for a maturation that now exudes a touch of considered reluctance. The botrytis picked up during the late harvest, combined with five months in French oak barrels, has resulted in a wonderfully complex wine, revealing notes of honey and dried fruit. The granite terroir and southeastern exposure of the vineyard further promise subtle nuances – a gentle decant (around 60 minutes, naturally) would undoubtedly unlock even more of its fascinating origins. It’s a fantastic match with game patés or sheep’s cheese.
