The Quinta de Chocapalha is located in the village of Aldeia Galega in Alenquer, within the Lisbon region. Although it is seen as a relatively young producer in terms of bottled wines, the estate’s records date back to the 16th century, during the reign of King João VI. The fortunes of this centuries‑old house changed dramatically when it was acquired by the Tavares da Silva family in the 1980s. Soon the family heavily invested in the vineyards and winemaking facilities, with the sole aim of achieving maximum wine quality while preserving the reputation that the Quinta has always enjoyed. All was set for Sandra Tavares da Silva—an acclaimed producer from the Douro and daughter of the Tavares da Silva estate—to take the helm of the house’s enology. It quickly became clear that this estate would produce beautiful wines and would, in turn, become one of the most important and finest producers in the Lisbon region. On its 45 ha of vineyards, the Quinta produces both white and red wines from national varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Arinto, as well as international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines truly rank among the best in the region and are a delight on the table. (Illustrative image only)
