The Chocapalha estate is situated in Aldeia Galega, Alenquer, in the Lisbon Region. Though it is known today as a relatively young producer in terms of bottled wines, the estate’s records date back to the 16th century, during the reign of King João VI. Its fortunes changed dramatically when it was acquired by the Tavares da Silva family in the 1980s, who soon invested heavily in the vineyards and winemaking facilities, with a single aim: maximum wine quality and the preservation of the reputation that the estate has always enjoyed. With everything in place, Sandra Tavares da Silva—an acclaimed Douro producer and daughter of the Tavares da Silva estate—took the reins of the house’s oenology, and it quickly became evident that this estate would yield beautiful wines and become one of the most important and finest producers in the Lisbon Region. Covering 45 hectares of vines, the estate produces both white and red wines from national varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Arinto, as well as international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines truly rank among the best in the region and are a delight at the table.
