The Quinta de Foz de Arouce is situated in the municipality of Lousã, in the Beiras region. It is surrounded by the fortifications of the Serras da Lousã and Penela and is bordered by the rivers Arouce and Ceira, where the former empties. Ancient documents in the house refer to the property as belonging to the family since the 18th century; some buildings are even older, as the original house burned twice. The chapel adjoining the house was founded by a brief pontifical decree from Pope Benedict XIII on 24 August 1724. Vine cultivation has been known here since the Visigothic occupation of the peninsula, as various legends attest that King Arunce stored wine, among other precious goods, in his castle in Lousã. Viticultural production at the estate blends with its own history and demarcation; today, like the cellar, it is the only one known in the region. (image merely illustrative)
