The earliest known historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. In 1980, Álvaro de Castro—civil engineer by training but driven by a passion for wine—enthusiastically purchased the estate, reviving a family winemaking tradition that had been dormant for two generations. He later acquired Quinta de Saes. Both properties, situated at the foot of the Serra da Estrela, benefit from the shielding of Atlantic winds, which contribute to their aromatic and complex wines.
