The earliest known historical references to Quinta da Pellada date back to around 1570. The Demarcated Region of Dão was established in 1908, framed by three mountainous massifs—Buçaco, Caramulo, and Serra da Estrela—which shield it from Atlantic winds and provide it with very special climatic conditions. Álvaro Castro is one of Portugal’s best producers and an undisputed leader in its Dão region (illustrative image only).
