This Ventozelo Grande Reserva is a deliciously perplexing Natural Brut – a rebel without a cause, really. It presents with a subtly nutty character, reminiscent of those prized almonds and hazelnuts found across the Douro’s terroir, enveloped in a comforting bakery-like note, perhaps a whisper of that fantastic Alentejo bread. On the palate, it’s a remarkably balanced wine, offering a creamy texture that lingers beautifully, and is utterly divine with aged cheeses or, dare I say it, a classic Bacalhau à Brás. A wine that makes you pause and wonder if "dry is always best" is entirely true.
