The Quinta do Cardo belongs to the Beira Interior region, Castelo Rodrigo sub-region, and is located near this village. The vineyards, cultivated at an average altitude of 750 metres, are protected by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo mountain ranges and surrounded by the Douro, Coa, and Águeda rivers. With a total area of 180 hectares, of which 69 are vineyards, all certified organic, the rest host an extensive reserve of cork oak and natural forest. The first vines were planted in 1932 and the recognition of wine quality has been a constant over the years. The Companhia das Quintas acquired the property in 2001, maintaining the unquestionable quality of the whites and showcasing the potential of quality reds in the region. With an uncommon style in Portugal, the Quinta do Cardo’s reds feature balsamic notes, great freshness, and complexity.
