The Quinta do Cardo is located in the Beira Interior region, within the Castelo Rodrigo sub‑region, close to the village of the same name. Its vineyards are cultivated at an average altitude of 750 m and are sheltered by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo mountains, while the surrounding landscape is framed by the Douro, Coa and Águeda rivers. The estate covers 180 hectares, of which 69 are dedicated to vineyards—all certified as organic—and the remainder is an extensive reserve of cork oak and natural forest. The first vines were planted in 1932, and the winery’s reputation for quality has remained constant over the years. Companhia das Quintas acquired the property in 2001, preserving the undeniable quality of the whites and showcasing the potential of high‑quality reds in the area. With an uncommon style in Portugal, the reds from Quinta do Cardo feature balsamic notes, remarkable freshness and complexity. (illustrative photo only)
