Quinta do Carmo HISTORY The Quinta do Carmo brand has been produced since the 19th century. The estate covers roughly 1,000 hectares, of which 150 hectares are vineyards, surrounded by about 400 hectares of forest, 100 hectares of woodland, and 350 hectares of pasture land. For more than a century, only red wines were made; it was only in the early 1990s, during a joint venture with the Lafite Rothschild group (Bordeaux), that Quinta do Carmo Branco was created, quickly becoming iconic among Alentejo wines. The cellar on the estate, equipped with modern winemaking technology, turns grapes into wine quickly, preserving the very best qualities they can offer. PROFILE This white is made from a selection of the finest white grapes at Quinta do Carmo. The vineyards are planted on both clay‑limestone soils over marble (in the Estremoz anticline geological formation) and on clay soils over schists. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, brought in during the early morning, and immediately pressed and cooled upon arrival at the cellar. A classic white fermentation follows, featuring a pre‑fermentative cold maceration on fine lees and a long post‑fermentative lees contact. Its exuberant aromatic profile, supported by lively acidity and a firm, full body, allows it to be enjoyed straight away or aged for several years. Stainless‑steel maturation. The balanced acidity of this wine – mineral and fresh – pairs perfectly with shellfish, white meats, light salads, pasta, and snacks such as roasted peanuts and almonds.
