This Quinta do Pôpa Black Edition seems to have sprung from a bubble of audacity – those grapes arriving in 20kg boxes, quite the drama! The cold maceration, coupled with a fermentation that had the team divided (50% in new oak, 50% in used), clearly aimed for something truly complex. The *Revista de Vinhos* (89 points) rightly called it a substantial entry, with toasty notes that surprisingly give way to florals, all culminating in a powerful and persistent fruit finish. It demands respect, and certainly a good plate to balance its structure – perhaps with a hearty roasted lamb?
