Quinta do Portal Um is a red wine of great balance and aging potential. Winemaker: Paulo Coutinho Harvest: Manual picking, grapes transported in boxes. Harvest took place from October 7 to 12. Average yield of 5.5 tonnes per hectare. Vinification: 50 % Tinta Roriz and 50 % Touriga Nacional. Alcoholic fermentation with maceration in small vats at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C, using only gravity to move grapes, must, and wine. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. Bottled in July 2021 with natural cork stoppers. Vineyard information: The 2019 growing season had cooler temperatures and precipitation below normal. Winter temperatures were lower, especially in January, and precipitation was reduced except in November. Bud break occurred in mid‑March, and April saw high rainfall. Flowering at the end of May benefited from the recorded average temperatures. In June and August, average temperatures were lower, and in August some rainfall was noted. The harvest maintained mild temperatures and low rainfall, extending ripening and resulting in a long, calm harvest. It was the longest harvest on the estate, with 50 days of cutting, and the third consecutive harvest to start in August. The 2019 harvest was notable for the freshness of the white wines and the balance and structure of the reds. Chemical analysis: Reducing sugars 0.8 g/dm³. Total acidity 5.3 g/dm³ (tartaric acid). pH 3.7. Caloric value 89 calories per 100 ml. Can be included in vegetarian and vegan diets. Recommended to decant at least 30 minutes before serving, with the wine at a temperature of 13–14 °C.
