The Vinha da Neta is a tribute from grandfather Nelson to his granddaughter Maria Simões, who will carry on the tradition of wines from Quinta do Sobral. Made from the Encruzado and Cerceal Branco varieties, it offers a mineral aroma with floral touches, alongside hints of citrus and green apple. On the palate it is fruit‑forward, with excellent acidity and a very long finish. It is in Velho Sobral that Cristina Simões, daughter of the company’s founder, grows up with her grandparents, learning the art of the land, playing, and most importantly, discovering love—a love that continues to overflow with pride. She began her dream with sacrifice in 1997, acquiring land for Velho Sobral, restoring old vines with new plantings, and building her winery in 2000, constantly evolving technology and space to serve her craft. Quinta do Sobral now manages 15 hectares of vines in production and more than 20 hectares of forest, essential to the terroir of Dão wine. Returning to the sacrifices and the bet on this project, Cristina Simões, a trained teacher, and Jorge Loureiro, a hotel manager from a 5‑star complex in England, formed a passionate couple with shared ideas. They embraced Nelson Simões’ project, realized their dream, and left behind their well‑established careers to focus exclusively on Quinta do Sobral. We have reached a turning point at Quinta do Sobral, but it wasn’t the arrival of Cristina and Jorge that brought this change. It was precisely the arrival of Maria—daughter, granddaughter, and soul of Quinta do Sobral—who created this transformation. (Illustrative image only)
