The Quinta do Todão is situated opposite the village of Gouvinhas, in the Cima Corgo sub‑region. The parish of Gouvinhas received its charter from D. Afonso III in 1256, lies along the S. Martinho Ferrão road and is sheltered from the north wind. It is a historic estate with centuries‑old ties to Port wine. Its vineyard spans 50 hectares. With uneven, deeply loamy soil, it produces not only excellent wine and olive oil but also tasty oranges and tangerines. The main building of Quinta do Todão is the Solar of Dr. Paulo Pizarro de Carvalho e Melo, a descendant of the Marquis of Pombal; it is a painted house built in the 18th century.
