The result of blending grapes that are more ripe than usual with human persistence daring to innovate gives rise to this Late Harvest wine. It came about from the idea of producing a sweet, non‑fortified wine—a rarity in the Douro, especially for a red. Harvested in November, a dry, sunny autumn allowed the grapes to accumulate extra sugar. The outcome is a sweet red wine with a high sugar concentration, one of the few, if not the only, late‑harvest reds from the Douro. It is very dark, with a deep ruby hue, and a pronounced aroma of cherries and blackberry jam, accented by balsamic nuances. Sweet and full‑bodied, it displays intense fruit notes—ginja and ripe blackberry—balanced by a refreshing acidity, and finishes long, almost endless, and balsamic.
