Quinta dos Roques 2022 was one of the warmest and driest vintages since 1931! After a cold, dry winter that slightly delayed the emergence of new shoots, spring arrived with high temperatures and very low rainfall. From April onward, there was a sequence of high temperatures and drought, setting records. The flowering period was excellent, with no humidity to hinder good pollination and the harvesting of all grape varieties. With the dry conditions, 2022 was one of the years with the least disease pressure, allowing us to focus on foliage management to prevent any grapes damaged by the sun. Maturity was a bit uneven due to lack of water, and the harvest occurred earlier than usual. The grapes were in excellent health, with a slightly unusual balance between acids and sugars. Nevertheless, all wines exhibit wonderful flavors and are very fresh on the palate. We have high expectations for this year’s wines and their ageing potential. Vinification: crushing of the grapes with partial destemming, followed by a gentle pressing in an automatic press. The must was clarified by gravity and decantation; fermentation with selected yeasts took place at a temperature of 16–18 °C. After fermentation, the wine was stored in stainless steel vats, protected by inert gas, where it underwent natural clarification through the cold of Beira winter. Bottling: the wine was prepared for bottling with a slight “collage”, tartaric stabilization through cold, and a mild filtration. Bottled in February 2023. Allergen information: Contains sulfites.
