The Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of extraordinary beauty in the heart of the Douro, and has been owned by the Amorim family since 1999. The family's link to wine goes back far, through their connections with export houses in Vila Nova de Gaia via the cork business, but at this point that connection led to the realization of a dream, and the project is now in the hands of the fourth generation. With a history of over 250 years, the estate displays a preserved trace and the original 1764 wine‑cellar building, after interventions by architect Arnaldo Barbosa. (illustrative image)
