Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, on a bend of the Douro between Pinhão and Régua, was one of the valley's first winery hotels and remains one of the most highly regarded. The 11 suites in the restored 18th-century manor share a terrace with an infinity pool above the river; the Conceitus restaurant has serious credentials. The modern gravity-fed winery produces the structured Quinta Nova reds and the house Ports, with tastings and tours rounding out the wine-tourism offer.

History

Documented since 1764, it was owned by Real Companhia Velha for over a century; acquired by the Amorim group in 1999 and transformed into one of the Douro's first winery hotels.
