The origin of Quinta de S. João Batista is shrouded in tales of noble successions, donations to religious orders, and other events. It was acquired in 1987 by Caves Dom Teodósio, now part of the Enoport Wines Group, and since then the estate underwent a major restructuring of its vineyards and the construction of a modern winemaking centre. Located in the Paul do Boquilobo Biosphere Natural Reserve, recognised by UNESCO since 1981 as a World Biosphere Reserve, Quinta de S. João Batista is steeped in centuries of history, highlighted by its colonial‑style manor house and an architectural ensemble of excellent wine cellars, and covers a total area of about 145 hectares, of which 130 are planted with vines.
