The origins of Quinta de São João Batista are lost amid tales of noble successions, donations to religious orders, and other events. It was acquired in 1987 by Caves Dom Teodósio, now part of the Enoport Wines Group, and since then the estate has undergone a major restructuring of its vineyards and the construction of a modern winemaking centre. Located in the Paul do Boquilobo Natural Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO since 1981 as a World Biosphere Reserve, Quinta de São João Batista is steeped in centuries of history, embodied by a colonial‑style manor house and an architectural ensemble of excellent wine‑tasting caves, spanning a total area of about 145 hectares, of which 130 are planted with vines.
