This Vale D’Aldeia Reserva clearly received a rather reverent treatment – hand-picked grapes, hefty 20kg lots, and a maturation that seems to have been meticulously encouraged. The result is a wine of deep purple hue, hinting at a richly concentrated aromatic profile punctuated by notes of dark chocolate and spice, which really develop in those French oak barrels. It’s remarkably elegant on the palate, boasting velvety tannins that provide structure, and a refreshing acidity that ensures a lovely balance – perfect alongside a hearty beef roast, perhaps with a delightful wild mushroom filling. A wine that’s confident, but knows how to be considerate.
