Quinta Vale D. Maria, situated in the heart of the Douro, in the Cima Corgo, more precisely in the Vale do Rio Torto, has a history dating back to 1868. However, a new era of excellence began in 1996 when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the estate from his wife’s family, Joana Lemos van Zeller. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has led a dedicated and passionate effort, producing unique wines of recognised quality both in Portugal and abroad. The acquisition of Quinta Vale D. Maria by the Aveleda group in 2017 represents the continuation of this legacy, adding a long‑term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is based on a passion for every detail, starting with the manual selection of the best bunches, continuing with the use of traditional winemaking methods, and ending with careful selection of the finest French oak barrels. The commitment to a sustainable viticulture model is a priority, ensuring the wines’ quality remains intact while respecting natural resources. (illustrative image only)
