The Quinta Vale D. Maria, situated in the heart of the Douro in the Cima Corgo, specifically in the Vale do Rio Torto, dates back to 1868. However, a new era of excellence began in 1996 when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the estate from his wife Joana Lemos van Zeller’s family. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has steered a dedicated, passionate effort, producing unique wines of recognized quality both in Portugal and abroad. The 2017 acquisition by the Aveleda group continues this legacy, adding a long‑term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is rooted in a passion for every detail, from hand‑selecting the finest grapes to employing traditional vinification methods and selecting the best French oak barrels. A commitment to sustainable viticulture is a priority, ensuring wine quality remains high while respecting natural resources.
