The Quinta Vale D. Maria, situated in the heart of the Douro in the Cima Corgo—specifically in the Vale do Rio Torto—has a history that dates back to 1868. A new era of excellence began in 1996 when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the family estate from his wife, Joana Lemos van Zeller. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has led a dedicated and passionate effort to create unique wines of a quality recognised both in Portugal and abroad. The acquisition of the Quinta by the Aveleda group in 2017 continues that legacy, adding a long‑term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is grounded in a passion for every detail, from the hand‑picking of the finest bunches to the use of traditional vinification methods, and culminating in the careful selection of the best French oak barrels. Embracing a sustainable viticulture model remains a priority, ensuring the wines’ quality endures while respecting natural resources. (Illustrative image only)
