The rarity of the Alvarinho grape, its low production and distinctiveness make it the most valuable variety in Portugal. Its quality comes from natural soil and microclimate conditions, but also from the careful cultural practices of those who tend the vines and meticulously select the best ripening stage for harvest—a critical phase for determining the wine’s performance. In the winemaking process, Quintas de Melgaço follows traditional enological methods considered most suitable for the sub‑region, extracting the full quality of the grapes that arrive at the cellar. It is during this stage that Quintas de Melgaço carefully imprints its own identity onto the wines it produces. Prior to bottling, specialist technicians ensure the wine has the correct chemical composition, is properly clear, and demonstrates proven quality. For certification, the wine is submitted to the laboratory of the Comissão Vitivinícola da Região dos Vinhos Verdes, which, after approval, issues guarantee seals. Great care is taken with the bottle and cork quality so the wine evolves well in the bottle and behaves nicely in the glass. (illustrative image only)
