This Ramos Pinto Tawny Reserva is a wonderfully confident expression of Douro ageing. The orange hues already hint at the experience to come, retaining a lovely freshness from the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Rich notes of dark cherry and blackberry, intensified by the oak aging, reveal hints of dried fruits and a touch of hazelnut – perhaps a perfectly ripened hazelnut warmed by the sun. A truly elegant wine, receiving 89 points from Huon Hooke, it’s destined for a long, smooth finish; ideally paired with creamy sheep’s cheese and a drizzle of honey.
