Dr. Loosen This wine is produced exclusively from fruit grown in the estate's vineyards, located on red slate soils in the villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim. Red slate, less common than blue slate, is found mainly in the vineyards of Ürzig, Erden and Kinheim. Iron-rich red slate soil produces wines of rich, spicy and complex flavour with an intense mineral character. The stony slate soil reflects sunlight onto the grapes during the day while also storing much of the heat. The vines are cultivated specifically for the production of dry wine. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in neutral 3,000-litre oak barrels. Extended contact with the lees allows the wine to develop a harmonious natural balance and greater complexity.
