Description

Framingham: individuality, experimentation and following your own rules – these are some of Framingham’s guiding principles. Holding one of the oldest Riesling vineyards in New Zealand, it is here that wines of full texture and depth of flavour are born. The Framingham Classic Riesling is a generous, full‑bodied wine (in the style of Spätlese halbtrocken), with mature flavours of yellow and orange citrus, balanced by juicy acidity. **Seasonality 2022/23** Most of the growing season passed without significant incidents. There were some periods of higher than usual humidity at the end of February, but the weather conditions stabilized by harvest, allowing us to pick at our leisure and reach the desired levels of ripeness and flavour, producing very pleasant wines. **Vinification** The grapes come from all four sections of our estate. Each plot was hand‑picked and pressed in whole bunches. The musts primarily fermented in stainless‑steel tanks, with a small portion fermented and aged in acacia barrels. All components were kept in contact with whole lees without added SO₂ for about five months before being blended and bottled. **Pairing** Ideal with all kinds of pork dishes, other white meats and shellfish, or simply as an aperitif. **Labelling** Acidity: 8.5 g l⁻¹ pH: 3.1 Residual sugars: 19 g l⁻¹ Region: Marlborough Sub‑region: Conders Bend Vineyards: Framingham Estate Vine Age: 20–40 years Soil type: Ancient river bed, rocky and well‑drained, with silty material and gravel stones the size of a fist. **Awards** 94/100 – Double Gold – Six Nations Wine Challenge (AUS) (2015) 93/100 – Bob Campbell MW (NZ) (2015) Silver – IWSC (UK) (2015) Metro Top 50 – NZ (2016) Silver – International Wine and Spirits Competition (UK) (2016) 92/100 – Jamie Goode – The Wine Anorak (UK) (2017) 4 stars – Raymond Chan Wine Reviews (2017) Gold – New Zealand International Wine Show (NZ) (2019) 95/100 – Sam Kim (NZ) (2019) 95/100 – Bob Campbell MW (NZ) (2019) Gold – New World Wine Awards (NZ) (2019) 95/100 – Cameron Douglas MW (NZ) (2020) 93/100 – NZ Wine Rater (NZ) (2020) 95/100 – Wine Orbit (NZ) (2020) Gold – Global Fine Wine Challenge (AUS) (2020) 94/100 – NZ Wine Rater (NZ) (2021) 5 stars – Michael Cooper’s Wine Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines (NZ) (2021) **Allergen information** Contains sulphites.
