This Ribeiro Somencio ET seems to have been conjured by a wizard. The painstaking winemaking – with Encruzado and Touriga Nacional harvested separately before a delightfully complex reunion – is truly remarkable. Prolonged maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts (presumably whispering secrets to the wine) deliver a truly enigmatic character. Despite its delicate appearance, this wine holds its own admirably. Following time spent breathing in new French oak barrels, it bursts forth with fresh, vibrant fruit – a pleasant surprise, indeed. The result is a light, elegant wine with a lingering finish, perfect for a conversation and perhaps a plate of fresh cheeses. A wine that invites discovery and rewards patience.
