This Sandeman Tawny, aged 20 years, is a truly delightful puzzle. Dried apricots and honey reign supreme, subtly interwoven with a hint of hazelnut – as if they’d spent some quiet time contemplating their fate in the cellar. A touch of spice and vanilla, echoes of its extended maturation, add to a complexity that’s frankly hard to put into words, a complexity that earned it a respectable 91 points from Wine Spectator. Best enjoyed slowly, perhaps with some aged cheeses and a hearty rye bread.
