Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has forged a long journey, establishing itself as one of the country’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by making wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring properties across Portugal and creating new standards for quality wine production. Regarded as the finest estate from the early 15th century still standing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old royal property. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great significance to the nation. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, a family foundation led by Comendador José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the surrounding area, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes—the Arrábida Natural Park. (illustrative image)
