This Sobroso, from Herdade do Sobroso, clearly enjoyed a sheltered youth in stainless steel, but then embraced a bolder adolescence with a touch of French and American oak – a move that, I admit, gifted it with a charming chocolate note. Remarkably balanced, as evidenced by its impressive 16 points from Grandes Escolhas, it speaks volumes about the quality of the grapes and the producer’s meticulous approach. A medium-bodied red, it’s ideally suited to grilled beef or a beautifully roasted fish.
