This “Tears of Anima” from Herdade do Portocarro is a bold statement coming from the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula – a region where, as José da Mota Capitão knew well, rosé production is still finding its footing. Driven by biodynamic inspiration and a deep love for Sangiovese, the result is a surprisingly vibrant and refreshing wine – those 17 Grandes Escolhas judges certainly weren’t mistaken. The acidity, reminiscent of tangerine and green plum, plays beautifully with a touch of sweetness, and the use of French oak balseiros adds an unexpected layer of complexity. A wine with a distinct personality, fitting for a producer crowned “Producer of the Year” by Wine Essência do Vinho, and absolutely perfect with grilled fish or salmon.
