Born in lava soils rich in mineral nutrients, it genuinely expresses the volcanic terroir. With a clear ruby colour, the aroma is dominated by wild fruits, fresh strawberries and tomato leaves, with a slight vanilla from the barrel and volcanic notes that give it some complexity. On the palate it is very elegant, with soft tannins, medium body and a very pleasant, persistent and tasty finish. The Viticultural Cooperative of Pico Island was founded in 1949, when local growers joined to try to recover noble grape varieties and the stone‑stone vineyard culture, now classified as UNESCO World Heritage. Over the years more members have joined this cause, now totaling 250, including women, men and families who devote their lives to their passion and a centuries‑old art. With 70 years of history it is the oldest wine producer in the Azores and continues to respect and preserve viticultural traditions. This alliance is the foundation of the quality of wines created in Azorean soils. (illustrative image)
