The Quinta de Santo António is located in Fornos de Maceira Dão, in the municipality of Mangualde, covering a total area of about 30 hectares, of which roughly 11 hectares are vineyards. These vineyards are mainly old vines and include the region’s principal varieties: Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Rufete, and Encruzado. The estate is one of the oldest properties in the municipality. Its original structure dates back to the 16th century and is marked by a simple façade with lightly decorated windows and a distinctive corner window in the Manueline style. Later, a Baroque chapel dedicated to Santo António—the beloved saint of the area and protector of the flocks—was annexed. Construction of the chapel began in 1736, and it survived the 1755 earthquake unscathed. In the 20th century a third section of the house was added, featuring a majestic clock tower. Vineyards have always played a vital role in the life of the estate and the surrounding region. Even in the first charter of Count D. Henrique in 1102, grape production was recorded and taxed. The current owner acquired the estate in 1999 with the aim of producing high‑quality estate wines that express the unique character of the Dão. (Illustrative image only)
