Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas and later continued by Germana Freitas and Ermelinda Freitas, the estate has always given special attention to its wines. From the very first generation, the family has placed its focus on the quality of both the vineyards and the wines, which were originally produced and sold in bulk without a private label. The real turning point came under the current management of Leonor Freitas, who in 1997 ushered in a new era for this long‑standing family business, producing and bottling the first wine under the name **Casa Ermelinda Freitas**.
