Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, and later continued by Germana Freitas and then Ermelinda Freitas, the family has always given special attention to wine. From the very first generation, this house has focused on the quality of its vineyards and wines, which were initially produced and sold in bulk without a brand name. It was with the current management that a major change occurred: the creation of proprietary labels. In 1997, a new chapter began with the first wine produced and bottled by Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
