Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, the winery was later carried on by Germana Freitas and then Ermelinda Freitas, all of whom placed a strong emphasis on wine quality. From its earliest days, the estate has prioritized the quality of its vineyards and wines, which were originally produced and sold in bulk without a proprietary label. A significant shift occurred under the current leadership, when the house began creating its own brands. In 1997, a new chapter opened with the first wine produced and bottled under the Casa Ermelinda Freitas name. (illustrative image only)
