One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, known as the Ferreirinha, and still today kept in the hands of her descendants. Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten for a time, and they have now naturally made up for lost ground. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to be among the very best. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It sits right next to Régua, on the banks of the Corgo River. The fortunes of this emblematic estate rest in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the management of the company and winemaking, respectively.
