The Vallado Reserva red wine is produced from old vines aged between 60 and 100 years, comprising more than 35 traditional Douro grape varieties, with a predominance of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca. After malolactic fermentation, it ages for 18 months in 225‑litre French oak barrels. It presents a very concentrated aroma, with notes of fig, blackberry, tobacco, and subtle balsamic nuances from the wood. On the palate it is full-bodied and meaty, with mature and round tannins, finishing with an elegant, mineral, persistent, and complex finish. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and that remains today in the hands of her descendants. The Vallado wines were unfairly forgotten, but now have naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro, deserving to be among the top tiers. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It is situated near Régua, on the banks of the Corgo River. The destiny of this iconic estate is in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, responsible for the management of the company and the enology, respectively.
