This Vallado is made exclusively from the Sousão grape and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 40 % new and 60 % second‑use. With a concentrated aroma, it offers balsamic notes, dark fruit, tobacco and spices. It is a full‑bodied, meat‑like wine, with dark fruit flavours and a mineral, fresh and long finish. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and which remains in the hands of her descendants. The Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten and have now naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to occupy the top positions. Founded in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the Douro. It is located just outside Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The fate of this emblematic estate rests with João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, and who are responsible for the company’s management and enology, respectively.
