The Vallado Touriga Nacional red is produced exclusively from the Touriga Nacional grape and ages for about 16 months in 225‑liter French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also occurs. It presents a highly concentrated aroma, dominated by balsamic notes from the wood, very ripe red fruit, and an elegant touch of violet. On the palate it reveals great balance and fruit concentration, with mature and rounded tannins that support a long, fresh, and persistent finish. One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, and which still remains in the hands of its descendants. Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten and have now naturally recovered lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro that deserve to be in top places. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest in the Douro. It is situated near Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The future of this emblematic estate is in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the company’s management and enology, respectively.
