One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, a property that once belonged to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira – the Ferreirinha – and remains in the hands of her descendants today. The Vallado wines had been unjustly forgotten, but have now naturally reclaimed their lost time. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve a top spot. Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the region. It sits close to Régua, on the banks of the Rio Corgo. The fate of this emblematic estate is in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of the Ferreirinha, who are responsible for the business management and the enology, respectively.
