Vieux Château Certan is one of the most well‑known vineyards in Pomerol. It was founded in the early 14th century when the Demay family arrived from Scotland to settle in the area. It appeared on the Belleyme map in 1785 under the name “Sertan”. In Pomerol the local name Certan was removed from the property. In 1858 Charles de Bousquet became owner of Vieux Château Certan, and the castle buildings that exist today were built by him. In 1924 Georges Thienpont, a Flemish wine merchant, bought the estate, marking the start of the family’s presence in the Bordeaux region. (Image purely illustrative)
