This Vila Jardim from Casa de Santar certainly seems like it's been meticulously arranged within a small Dão vineyard – a clever strategy, no doubt, considering the hand-picked grapes. The blend of Alfrocheiro, Alicante Bouschet, and Touriga Nacional suggests a fermentation meticulously overseen to coax out maximum flavour. Aging in a mix of French and American oak is, of course, intended to add the complexity expected of a wine aiming to make a strong impression. Pairs beautifully with a hearty red meat or a nicely grilled fish, naturally.
