This Villa Alvor is a delightfully quirky blend – a marriage of Trincadeira, Sauvignon and Antão Vaz that’s certainly given the winemakers a bit of a challenge. The Sauvignon brings a welcome burst of freshness, though it’s battling valiantly (and perhaps unsuccessfully) against the tannins of the Aragonez and Touriga Nacional. Critics have described the result as “a palate puzzle,” and it’s a fantastic accompaniment to grilled fish with a citrus kick – a pairing that really lets the wine’s complexities shine.
